VITAMIN D AND COVID-19: ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO RECOMMEND SUPPLEMENTS
There are now close to 30 or so studies demonstrating that having optimal blood levels of 25(OH)-vitamin D (75-150 nmol/L) reduces covid-19 risks: reduced risk of infection; reduced risk of severe disease; reduced risk of dying. Many researchers now regard the evidence as ‘overwhelming’. Despite this, there still will be those who say that we need ‘more research’, but in the meantime, there is little to be lost (vitamin D supplements are inexpensive and have low risk of toxicity) and a huge amount to gain by recommending a decent daily dose of vitamin D3 (say 1-2,000 IU for children and 4-5,000 IU for adults).
Scientists and health organizations around the world now recommend daily consumption of 1000 IU or 25 mcg of vitamin D to support many aspects of health, including bone and heart health. And the form most recommended for its superior bioavailability is vitamin D3 cholecalciferol.
THE IDEAL COMBINATION – Vitamin D needs Vitamin K2 to maximise its myriad of benefits, including strong bones and teeth, muscle function and immune system support
STRONG BONES – Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) enhances calcium absorption, while vitamin K2 (menaquinone-7 or MK7) improves mineral density and strength and makes sure calcium gets where it needs to go
THE SUNSHINE VITAMIN – Vitamin D3 is the version of vitamin D closest to the form your body creates from direct sunlight, making it easier for your body to absorb and use
Vitamin D3 1000 IU / Vitamin K2 100 mcg employs the most bioavailable, effective nutrient forms of these essential bone nutrients, for optimal absorption and utilization: vitamin D3 cholecalciferol and vitamin K2 menaquinone-7.
